Getting Ready for Paris, Corsica and Sardinia

Hi Everyone,

Allan and I are getting ready for our fall travel adventure.  It will be a 'vertical' trip from Paris to Corsica to Sardinia. We head to Paris on Monday September 23, arriving on Tuesday September 24.  We will be spending seven nights in Paris.  We have rented an Airbnb in Montmartre, a change from our usual Latin Quarter digs.

On October 1, we fly to Calvi, Corsica for four nights.  We will then travel by train and spend two nights in Ajaccio, the capital of Corsica and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte!  Our final stop in Corsica is Bonifacio, where we will spend three nights.

On October 10, we take the ferry and bus to Alghero, Sardinia where we will spend three nights.  On October 13, we take the train to Cagliari, Sardinia where we will spend four nights before heading back to Toronto on October 17.

Corsica-- we'll be visiting Calvi, Ajaccio and Bonifacio

Calvi has a population of 5,700 and is believed to be the 1436 birthplace of Christopher Columbus when the city was ruled by the Genoese.

Ajaccio has a population of 70,000 and is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Our final stop in Corsica is Bonifacio on the southernmost tip of Corsica.  It has a population of 3,200.

Very impressive Citadel.

We then take the ferry to Sardinia (Sardegna in Italian)

Alghero on west coast (north) and Cagliari in the south.

Our first stop will be Alghero, encircled by ancient walls.  It has a population of 45,000.

We end our journey in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, which has a population of 160,000.  It is located in the south of the island.

On October 17, we fly back to Toronto through Rome and Paris.

While we start our adventure in Paris, one of our favourite cities, we will be visiting Corsica and Sardinia for the first time.  We are looking forward to our 'vertical' adventure.  Lots of interesting history, culture and food.  As you may discern from our travels, we definitely have an affinity for visiting islands and coastal cities.

Allan will be "Alain" in Paris and Corsica and "Alonso" in Sardinia.

Please check our blog from time to time to follow our adventure.  I'll most likely do the first post from Paris on Wednesday September 25, once we have a chance to settle in.
